For Android developers looking for an easier way to deliver live to Android TV, Google has released the TV Input Framework (TIF). The framework provides an API for manufactures to create TV Input Modules, as well as live TV search and recommendations, to make it easier to meet regional digital TV broadcast standards.
Any media stream source can be turned into a TV input service, and the TIF framework provides extensible implementations of common TV input service features. Developers interested in starting their own TV channel can take advantage of the the robust list of components TIF provides, including TV Provider, TV Input, Parental Control, HDMI-CEC, and TV Input HAL.
Developers interested in developing for Android TV, and especially those looking at live content, should head over to the Building Apps for TV page, on developer.android.com. For more information on developing a TV Input Service, click here for the documentation.
